Mark Louis Simmons was born on Sept. 26, 1955, in Jacksonville, Fla., and passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011, at the age of 55 after a lengthy, courageous battle with the complications associated with diabetes.
Although he was raised mostly in Texas, Mark chose Baton Rouge to be his home. Mark was a proud Texas A&M Aggie, Class of 1977, but a true fan of the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Mark was employed by the Williams Co. as a mechanical engineer. He will be remembered for his loving and caring personality, strong Christian faith, and his enduring strength.
Mark is survived by his wife Lisa Simmons; daughters, Kate Beard and husband Jonathan, and Alexis Gibson; grandson, Aiden Beard; parents, Louis and Betty Simmons; sister, Debra Monroe and husband Howard; nieces, Sarah Sanders and husband Chad, and Laura Webb and husband Aaron; and grandnieces, Anna and Catherine Sanders. A private memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 15. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mark's name to the American Diabetes Association .
