Died: January 25, 2011
Age: 78

Bernard M. “Bernie” Boyd, 78, of Dallas, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Rev. Hoa Nguyen, celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Bernard was born on July 21, 1932 in Big Spring, Texas to the late Max and Laurine (Cragin) Boyd. He served our country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Lake Champlain Aircraft Carrier with an honorable discharge in 1955. On June 18, 1955, he married Joyce Willen. He was a lifelong Catholic, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He later retired from Lone Star Industries after 25 years of service. Bernie enjoyed rebuilding his Cessna airplane with his uncle, Joe Cragin, and listening to Jazz and Blues music. He was also preceded in death by his son, David M. Boyd.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Willen Boyd; two daughters, Carol A. Morris, and Cindy Wilkerson and husband Merlin; three sons, Richard M. Boyd and wife Melissa, Stephen M. Boyd, and Donald J. Boyd; two granddaughters, Makenzie Hill and husband Cody, and Emily Wilkerson; six grandsons, Conner Boyd, Christopher Boyd, Nicholas Boyd, Jake Wilkerson, Billy Wilkerson, and Mason Wilkerson; and his sister, Rita Boyd Williams and husband Michael and family.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA. 22312; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4144 N. Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas, TX 75204.
