Rodney Lee Sams
January 18, 1948 - January 15, 2011
Rodney Sams of Bandera, TX departed this life on Saturday, January 15, 2011at the age of 62. He was born January 18, 1948 in Lompoc, CA to the late A. C. and Ellen (Lenoire) Sams.
After graduating from Lakeview High School in 1966, Rodney went on to graduate from Texas A&M University with a degree in Entomology in 1970. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon honorable discharge, he furthered his education receiving his Masters from Texas Tech University.
Rodney married Carol Baxter January 18, 1986 in Dodd, Texas. The couple moved to Bandera in 1992 for him to continue working as an entomologist. They were members of the Emmanuel Worship Center in San Antonio.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Carol of Bandera; three daughters, Sonia Dudley and husband Rodger of Hobbs, NM, Beth Been and husband Bo of Austin, TX, and Phebe Sams of Amarillo; two sons, Monty Vaughn and wife Carolyn of Lubbock and Russell Vaughn and wife Norma of Canyon; one sister, Susan Sams of California; nine grandchildren; and, two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am - Noon, Friday, January 21, 2011 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, January 21, 2011 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to any Wells Fargo Bank on behalf of the Rodney Sams Benefit Fund.
