Frank Burke
Frank J. Burke, 87, of Midland went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2011. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Services have been scheduled for Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3011 W Kansas, Midland, Texas with Rev. Kathryn Boren and Rev. Kelly Inman officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Frank was born in Necessity, Texas to Leland C. and Minnie L. Meinhardt Burke on September 24, 1923. After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1942, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp where he served in World War II as a B17 co-pilot and flew 35 missions over Europe. Frank attended Texas A&M University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, graduating Class of 1949. He then married Nancy Jane Blair on September 1, 1949 at the Little Chapel in the Woods on the campus of Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. He worked for Gulf Oil for thirty-seven years as a district pipeline engineer. Frank also worked contract for Chevron several years after retiring from Gulf Oil.

He was a Mason, helped with Boy Scouts and the Meals-on-Wheels Garage Sale. Most of all Frank loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for being a loving and caring son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with a servant's heart.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Hershberger and husband Lee of Midland; one son, Les Burke and wife Caryl of Midland; grandchildren, Allison Miller, Bonnie Rogers and husband Robert of Sachse, Kathryn Rhodes and husband Aaron of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Kevin Burke and wife Sara of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Madison Marquez, Jonah Rogers, and Mirabella Willis; two nephews, Gary Burke and wife LeeAnn of Mansfield and Petty Officer Second Class Stephen Burke and wife Mandy, stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl Burke and Arthur Burke and great-grandchild Mason Marquez.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Miller, Dr. Shylesh Ganta, and the staff of the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank Burke's memory can be given to Hospice of Midland, 911 W Texas, Midland, Texas or St. Luke's Methodist Church, 3011 W Kansas, Midland, Texas.
