Richard A. (Dick) Ingels - Born May 23, 1931 in Dallas, TX to Prosper and Margaret Ingels. Died August 1, 2010. Dick was a devoted husband and father and a wonderful and generous man. Attended Sunset High School and Texas A&M, Class of 52. At A&M he was Most Outstanding Freshman Cadet, Commander of the Freshman Drill Team, president of sophomore class, Commander of Ross Volunteers, and Commander of Armored Artillery Regiment. Served as artillery observer in 25th Infantry Division in Korea. Received Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster with over 100 combat missions. Employed 49 years as a State Farm agent, CLU, ChFC, and retired in December 2007. Received numerous awards including Silver Scroll and Crystal Excellence. Member of In His Steps Bible Class and Highland Park United Methodist Church and graced throughout his life by the presence of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Survived by his loving and faithful wife of 28 years, Sherry; daughters Allison, Kathryn, and Maggie Ingels, of Dallas; sons Earl Ingels of Phoenix, AZ, and Kirk Ingels and wife, Olga, of Austin, TX, brother Al Ingels and wife, Lee; sister Dorothy South; seven grandchildren; two great-grand children; a niece and several nephews.
An avid fisherman throughout his life, he enjoyed numerous trips to Alaska with EW Tucker, Bob Phelps, and Jakie Allen. His family is appreciative of the sacrifices he made and will miss Dick's outdoor grilling techniques where the food was always "cooked to perfection". The family thanks Faith Presbyterian Hospice, especially Sarah, Jan, and Huy.
A memorial service will be held at HPUMC at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 7. Honorary pallbearers are lifelong friends from Texas A&M: John Coolidge, Dr. Ed Houser, Bob Lincecum, Fagan "Chico" Mason, Ed Meisenheimer, Jack Morris, John Tapley, and Col. (Ret) Dan Waddle. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Exodus Ministries, 4630 Munger Ave, Dallas, TX 75204.
