JACKSONVILLE - Roy Glenn Wallace, 75, who was born in Jacksonville, died peacefully at home in Georgetown, Texas, on July 19, 2010. He lived with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) for 6 ½ years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Phillips Wallace, and sons William Burton Wallace, II, Atascadero, California, and John Robert Wallace of Georgetown. His brother Larry Wayne Wallace, died in 2005.
He grew up in Houston and graduated from Texas A.& M., class of '56. He earned masters degrees from University of Southern California, and was a member of the honorary society, Beta Gamma Sigma.
Roy entered the USAF in 1957, and proudly served for 27 ½ years, including a tour in Viet Nam, rising to the rank of Colonel. He was navigator bombardier on the B-47 and B-52, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His most memorable experience in Viet Nam was helping to airlift an entire village to safety, including their pigs. The villagers wouldn't leave without their pigs.
Roy will be buried in the Mixon Cemetery, near his parents, Burton and Hazel Wallace, and grandparents. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 54 years. A member of Crestview Baptist Church, Roy loved A & M., the Air Force, Texas, his five grandkids, and two cats, Porgy and Baby.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, July 23, 2010 at Mixon Cemetery in Mixon, Tx.
