William "Bill" Dixon '43 April 2, 2007 12:00 AM

William B. "Bill" Dixon '43, 85 of Chandler (formerly of Wichita Falls) died March 23, 2007. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an air observation pilot in Europe. His military decorations include the Air Medal and a Purple Heart. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, the Texas National Guard and the U.S. National Guard until he retired in 1981 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He started in the construction business in Wichita Falls as a homebuilder and later was a general contractor. He moved to the Dallas area and continued in construction as an owner's representative for Zale's Jewelers and later in a similar capacity for Target Stores. He retired in 1992. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Purna Lee; two sons, William B. Dixon, Jr. '76 and John R. Dixon '74; three daughters; and twelve grandchildren, including William B. Dixon III '01 and Sarah B. Erwin '05.
