Edward "Ed" Bonn '43

Edward W. 'Ed' Bonn '43, 87, of Denison (formerly of Alton, Ill.) died Oct. 5, 2009. He was a forward gunnery officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II with combat landings with the U.S. Marine Corps on Guam and Palau, and was part of the initial occupying force of Japan. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve for 15 years to the rank of lieutenant. He was a fishery biologist and striped bass project leader with Texas Parks and Wildlife for 35 years and published numerous papers on topics related to his field. He later operated 3-B Enterprises as a consulting biologist for 12 years. He was elected first president of the Texas Chapter American Fisheries Society in 1975, serving in 1976, and received the chapter's first award for fisheries management in 1977. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Paula; two sons, Thomas D. Bonn '71 and John E. Bonn '79; a daughter; seven grandchildren, including Zachary J. Taylor '01, M. Kristine Bonn '02, Thomas E. Bonn '03 and James P. Bonn '13; and two great-grandchildren.
