James "Jim" Thomason '41

James N. "Jim" Thomason '41, 87, of Brenham (formerly of Brownwood) died August 4, 2007 following a lengthy illness. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and flew 65 missions in the Pacific theater during World War II. His military honors include the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with six clusters. He had been drafted by the Detroit Lions and played with them for a year after he returned from the service. He then worked his accounting career in Brownwood. He was a member of Texas A&M's 1939 National Champions. He was All Southwest Conference blocking back and linebacker in 1939 and1940 and co-captain of the 1940 Texas A&M Southwest Conference co-champions team. He lettered in football in 1938, 1939 and 1940. He was selected to the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972 and to the Texas High School Hall of Fame in 2000. Survivors include his wife of 6o years, Marilyn; four daughters, including Elizabeth Bevan King '81; nine grandchildren, including Stacy Bevan Hill '97; 11 grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; a brother; and a sister.
