Joe M. Boyd '40, 92, of West Union, W.V. (formerly of Jacksonville and Dallas), died June 1, 2009. He was assistant chief accountant at Todd Galveston Shipyard in Galveston before receiving a master of theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, and later, a doctorate of divinity from Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Ind., in 1976. He pastored three churches in Texas, and for 62 years preached in churches and at tent revivals and conferences. In 1976, he founded Mt. Salem Revival Grounds in West Union, W.Va., a Christian camp with a prevailing revival spirit. After his wife of 62 years, Edith, died in 2000, he began to travel and preach worldwide. He also established the Joe Boyd Foundation and had more than 10 publications on evangelism and collections of stories. He lettered three years in football at Texas A&M and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1966. He was a co-captain of the 1939 National Championship team. Survivors include a son and a daughter.
