Leslie "Les" Watkins '48 October 7, 2008 12:00 AM

Leslie R. Les" Watkins '48, 80, of College Station (formerly of Jackson, Miss. and Houston) died Oct. 4, 2008. He was a sergeant major in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the Scientific and Professional Personnel Detachment at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He worked for Anderson-Clayton for more than 37 years as a technical director of oil mills, focusing on vegetable oil processing. He worked in Mexico for more than 15 years in different locations. He returned to the U.S. in 1966 and to corporate headquarters in Houston as technical director of oil mills in all Anderson-Clayton plants in Brazil, Peru, Mexico and the U.S. from California to Mississippi. From 1986 until 1998 he was director of oil mill industry services in Texas A&M's Food Protein Research and Development Center. He also was a consultant which took him abroad to many countries. He funded a President's Endowed Scholarship at Texs A&M. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marjorie; a daughter; a stepson; a grandson; and a sister.
