Eli Richard Bodine June 17, 1925 - April 16, 2008 A resident of Pleasant Hill Eli Richard Burdine, a resident of Pleasant Hill, passed away "with his boots on" at the venerable age of almost 83 years. Born June 17, 1925 in Amarillo, TX, he passed into eternity April 16, 2008 in Concord, CA. A decorated WWII veteran, who served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Eli was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After serving in the US Navy, he attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree. Upon completion of his studies, Eli obtained a masters degree in biology from the University of Arizona. He later became an assistant professor in the biology department. Eli worked as an agricultural inspector for the United States government, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. His last post was Yuma, AZ. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, he will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, his generous spirit, and his love and devotion to his family. Eli is survived by his wife of many years, Mary Burdine; four children, Mary Hanel of Bakersfield, CA, Martha O'Brien of Cobb, CA, Richard Burdine and Eli Burdine, Jr. of Pleasant Hill, CA; and 10 grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. "Eternal rest grant unto thee O Lord." Visitation will be held at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from 5-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Hull's on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 commencing at 10AM. Interment to follow at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. HULL'S WALNUT CREEK CHAPEL (925) 934-5400

Eli R. Burdine '52, 82, of Concord, Calif, (formerly of Amarillo) died April 16, 2008. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II. He was an assistant professor in the biology department at the University of Arizona. He later worked as an agriculture inspector for the U.S. government, retiring in Yuma, Ariz., after 35 years of service. Survivors include two sons, two daughters and 10 grandchildren.
