E.G. "Rod" Pittman of College Station, Texas, formerly of Lufkin, and a 1956 graduate of Texas A&M University, died in College Station on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at Hillier Funeral Home, located at 2301 E. 29th St. in Bryan, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas. Interment will follow at the Aggie Field of Honor in the Memorial Cemetery of College Station. Rod was a past chairman of the 12th Man Foundation, past member of the Association of Former Students Board, Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Association, Director of the Greater Texas Foundation in Bryan, Texas, past chairman of the Texas Water Development Board and Director of the Pineywoods Foundation. Rod served on several Lufkin boards and organizations including serving as a member of the Lufkin City Council. Rod retired from Lufkin Industries in 1999 where he was Vice President of Business Development. He was instrumental in developing Lufkin Industries as a major company in the international oil and gas production business. At the time of his death, he was currently serving as Executive Chairman of DynaPump Inc. As industrious as Rod was in business and serving his community, his real specialty in life was making and keeping friends. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Darlene Pittman; sons and daughter-in-law, Ernest Lane and Debbie Pittman and Lee Pittman; granddaughter, Jennifer Kiser; grandson, Jeremy Pittman; great-grandchildren, Alexis Anne and Madison May; sister and brother-in-law, Doris Ann and Joe White; and numerous nephews, nieces and other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the 12th Man Foundation, Texas A&M Foundation for the Corp Development or A&M United Methodist Church.
