Charles Pyle '52

Charles W. "Charlie" Pyle '52, 78, of Beaumont and Lake Conroe (formerly of Houston) died Jan. 4, 2008. He was a sergeant in the Judge Advocate General's office in the U.S. Army. He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law in 1956. He worked with Humble Oil & Refining in Houston before moving to Bell County in 1966 where he and his brother bought the family farm in Taylor's Valley. He later acquired and merged two independent insurance agencies to form The Insurors which he owned until 1982. He moved to Beaumont in 1986 to operate radio stations he had acquired in Sherman, Beaumont and Mineral Wells. He retired in 1990. He was named Business Person of the Year by the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas in 1986. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ida; a son, Charles W. Pyle, Jr. '83; two daughters, Mary Pyle Murphy '81 and Eugenia A. (Pyle) Liese '87; nine grandchildren; and a sister. Memorials may be made to Texas A&M University, College Station TX 77843.
