Richard "Dick" Scott '53 February 18, 2008 4:07 PM

While working on the Non-Mailables and with a big boost from LTC (ret)MAURICE MILLER, we were able to locate RICHARD B. SCOTT (B Athletics(fish) and Sqd 11). He is currently living in Drake, CO after a career with the State Department (USAID) as an Area Specialist in Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan. After graduation DICK went into the Air Force and served with an Air Police squadron with NATO in Paris and then went to Turkey as a communications officer with the US military aid mission. He later joined the State Department (USAID) and worked the majority of his career in the Middle East and South Asia: most of the ‘60s in Turkey, most of the ‘70s in Afghanistan and some of the ‘80s and early ‘90s in the Northwest Frontier of Pakistan. He was on loan to the Voice of America for 5 years as Chief of the Pashto Service during the time of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Since retiring from the State Department DICK has been doing some consulting for USAID on rehabilitation of water projects in southern Afghanistan (Helmand) that he started. The first of these was at the time of the Taliban government and he got along reasonably well with them. More recently he also started a small import business centering on Afghan refugee rugs and old carved wood items from north Pakistan that gets him back into the area once or twice a year. DICK may be reached at bmt@airbits.com
