John Andrew Ratcliffe, born on June 19, 1939 to Thomas G. and Goldie Ratcliffe, passed away July 19, 2025 in Houston, TX.
John was raised in Shreveport, LA and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. Upon graduation, he completed his college education at Texas A&M University, following in the footsteps of many of his family. He served three years in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan.
John settled in Houston and started his career in Oil & Gas with Texas Eastern. After several career moves, John joined Tauber Oil Company, remaining over 20 years and serving as a Vice President. He dedicated his professional career to the LPG industry, and was well known as a leader, mentor and respected professional throughout the field.
John was a people person and, as such, developed a vast number of friendships spanning the globe. He always truly cared about people, bringing kindness, compassion and true interest to every relationship…not to mention a bit of dry wit. John had many interests, but was known for his card playing ability. He loved to play bridge and gin rummy with friends and family. John was also a lifelong and passionate Texas A&M fan. He started a Texas A&M football tailgate party over 40 years ago that continues to this day.
John was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years, Peggy, and beloved father to his son, Andy.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Erickson Ratcliffe, son John Andrew Ratcliffe III. He is also survived by his in-laws Connie and Richard Davis of Tyler, TX, in addition to many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother Tom Ratcliffe and sister-in-law Sara Ratcliffe.
