Ann Marie (Wiese) Thurston

January 22, 1958 - January 1, 2024

Our very loving sister and friend Ann Marie Thurston, left us on Jan 1, 2024. She had a long battle with MS, but left us with many cherished memories.

Ann’s parents were Joan Margaret Hanson Wiese and Allen Franklin Wiese. Ann was born in Amarillo, TX, January 22, 1958.

Ann is survived by her sister Beth Cole and brother-in-law, Kenneth Cole of Gaithersburg, MD, and one brother, David Wiese, predeceased her. Her 3 nieces, Kristen Cole, Emily Kelly, and Katie Chan all live in Maryland. Ann married Clark Thurston in 2005 and enjoyed 18 years of marriage till his death last year. Clark’s 3 children, Clark Thurston Jr and Samantha Pollack live in TX, and Adam Thurston is in Alabama. Ann has 3 grandnieces and 7 grand nephews.

Ann loved Texas A&M University, and chose to carry on her father’s passion to educate those in the farming industry. She received a BS in Horticulture in 1980. From there she moved to Madison, WI to attend the University there graduating with MS in Horticulture in 1982 and completing her PhD in 1984.

After graduation, Ann worked for several Agricultural Chemical Companies including Union Carbide, Rhone-Poulenc, Dow, Aventis and Bayer. Her work territory included Colorado to Alabama, so she traveled frequently. She conducted research with new products, went to trade shows and represented and promoted her company products. She retired early.

Ann loved playing various sports throughout her life until MS became disabling. She was an avid volleyball participant from High School to local pickup games. For winter sports, Ann preferred ice-skating and downhill skiing. She spent many days in New Mexico hiking near her family’s cabin.

Arrangements by Ted Dickey Funeral Home.
