Delbert Floyd Hightower
January 9, 1932 - May 14, 2023
Delbert Floyd Hightower, 91, of Tyler, Texas passed away peacefully at Hospice of East Texas on May 14, 2023.
He was born January 9, 1932 in Desdemona, Texas to Johnnie and Virgie Hightower. Growing up as one of seven children in Texas during The Great Depression, Delbert learned many lessons from his parents and siblings that shaped his life in countless ways.
He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Necessary Hightower, in Gatesville, Texas on September 9, 1951.
Following his service in the US Navy, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and worked several years for Southwestern Bell in various locations, moving to Tyler in 1969. Here he worked many years as a contractor. For about 30 years, Delbert and his son Ron owned and operated The Tool Shed in Green Acres Shopping Center.
He is survived by his son Ronald Hightower (Jane) of Tyler, granddaughters Christy Nall (Austin) of Dripping Springs, Texas and Kimberly Fender (Bailey) of Tyler, great-granddaughters, Madison Nall, Hadley and Emelia Fender. He is survived by one brother, Donald Hightower (Sally) and one sister, Darlene Hightower Fitzhenry (Bill) as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, parents and three brothers, Cloyes, Douglas and Aubrey Hightower and sister, Norma Jo McCauley.
Delbert was a faithful member of The South Tyler Church of Christ.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, at 2:00 at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
