Ralph Eugene Morriss
February 18, 1935 - November 10, 2024
Ralph Eugene Morriss, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on November 10, 2024, in Clifton, Texas. Ralph was born in Flower Mound, Texas on February 18, 1935, to James William Morriss, Sr. and Leo Mae Pilgrim Morriss, and was proud to be a sixth generation Texan from Flower Mound. He always felt that his upbringing in a farming family is where he developed an unwavering work ethic which stayed with him throughout his life.
He attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts from North Texas State University and began work at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas where he would work for over 31 years. After retiring from T.I., he started a commercial landscape service company that serviced home builders and developers in five counties across the DFW Metroplex. He worked full time until turning 70 years of age.
While engineering was his occupation, his greatest joy and passion was farming and gardening. He genuinely loved being on a tractor and plowing up the earth and gardening in his many gardens on Morriss Road where he always had a porch full of produce to sell to whomever would stop by; especially his tomatoes and pickled beets and okra. He was always friendly and honest and would tell anyone who would listen how he grew his produce and how much he enjoyed it – it could turn into quite a long conversation, but he never met a stranger for sure!
He was married to his beloved wife, Karry Kay Morriss for 47 years until her passing in 2001, but remained a loyal and devoted husband throughout his remaining life. After Kay’s passing, he found another passion as a fervent fundraiser, for which he was an honoree of the Local Impact Award for significant contribution to the 3-Day community as a member of Team Boxing Babes with the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s fight to cure breast cancer. He participated in many walks around the country and truly enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie he developed with all the other team members. In addition, he was a Charter Member of the Plano YMCA and an elder in the Presbyterian Church. His warmth and wisdom will be missed by all that met him.
Ralph is survived by his sons Mark Morriss, and grandson Jared Morriss and daughter-in-law Taylor Beeson Morriss, Randy Morriss, Steve Morriss and wife, Becky Morriss, and granddaughter Taylor Morriss and grandson Alex Morriss and daughter, Kristi Lyn McNatt, and granddaughters Kaylyn McNatt and Megan McNatt, brother Richard Morriss and wife, Ann Morriss, as well as extended family and numerous life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife and two brothers James William Morriss, Jr. and Walter Ray Morriss.
Interment will be held at the Old Hall Cemetery in a private ceremony with family and a Celebration of his Life is planned for December 7, 2024, from 10:30AM – 12:00PM at Mason-Mulkey funeral home in Lewisville, Texas, where family and friends are invited to share memories and stories.
