The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Tuesday approved Gen. (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III as the 27th president of Texas A&M University.
"The board is certain that Gen. Welsh will make a Texas-sized impact as president of our world-class flagship," Chairman Bill Mahomes '69 said. "His remarkable career embodies Aggie core values. Now his mission is to raise Texas A&M’s national stature in research, education and student experience."
Porter Garner ’79, President and CEO of The Association of Former Students, noted that Welsh, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, is the son of an Aggie, a brother to five Aggies, the father of four Aggies, and a grandfather to a member of the Class of 2026.
“Mark Welsh knows exactly what it means to be an Aggie,” Garner said. “He is a tremendous leader and a genuine supporter of The Association. We are thankful to have his steady hand at the helm of our great university.”
