Kristopher Louis "Kris" Kapchinski
September 16, 1980 — August 27, 2023
On Sunday, August 27, 2023, Kristopher Louis Kapchinski, 42, of College Station, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Kris was born in Houston, Texas on September 16, 1980, the eldest child of Karl and Anita Kapchinski. He was a caring and mischievous older brother to two younger brothers; the trio grew to be thick as thieves. Growing up, Kris and his family could almost always be found at one sports park or another and loved to support the Aggies at every opportunity.
Kris graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1999. He then went on to attend Texas A&M University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2003. During this time, he served as a student athletic trainer for the football, softball, volleyball, and tennis teams. He received his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology at McNeese State University in 2006. Following in his father’s footsteps, Kris served as an athletic trainer at several schools, including Blinn College, and later provided Sportsmed Outreach to surrounding Central Texas communities for the Physicians Centre and CHI St. Joseph Health. Wherever he went, Kris made lasting connections with staff, faculty, and student athletes. He ended his career serving Centerville High School where he made countless connections and lifelong friends.
Kris might not have listed dancing as one of his greatest talents but, ironically enough, he met the love of his life Jessica Slataper during a dancing class at Texas A&M. Kris and Jessica were married on January 3, 2004, allowing him to spend his first months as a husband cheering on his wife as she became what he thought was “the greatest pitcher in Texas A&M history”. After their time at Texas A&M, they went off to start an adventure that took them all over Texas and Louisiana working at various schools and impacting lives. Along the way they decided to have some kids (Jenny in 2005 and Kade and Brandt in 2009) because they were making life look too easy together and needed a challenge. Kris was intentional about creating unique relationships with each of his children. He loved having them tag along to Friday night football games, watching them play sports and sharing his love of manual labor. While he loved teaching the value of hard work, he always prioritized instilling a love of scripture and the joy of the Gospel with his family. Though Kris was considered to be somewhat reserved, he knew how to bust loose at just the right time to get a laugh. Kris valued his relationships with his nieces and nephews who all believed that he just might be a superhero. His superpowers included wrestling, tickling, and general tomfoolery. While his wit, work ethic, and sense of humor were admired by most, his true character can be defined by his faith, love of family, and willingness to serve.
Kris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis (Papaw Louis) Kapchinski and Angela (Granny Annie) and Carl (Papa Carl) Fredericksen.
Kris is survived by his wife, Jessica; and children, Jennifer Renee, Kade Louis, and Kristopher Brandt; his parents, Karl & Anita Kapchinski; grandmother, Bib Kapchinski; siblings, Kyle Kapchinski (Meredith) and Kevin Kapchinski (Amanda); his parents-in-law, Ken and Rendye Slataper; sister in law, Natalie Friesen (Scott). Kris is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude for everyone who has helped care for Kris during this difficult time, especially Bluebonnet Hospice and Johna Hadley for their compassion and care.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to The JKB Kapchinski Children’s Trust.
