The Washington's Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) recently selected The Association President and CEO Porter S. Garner III '79 as Mr. South Texas. This honor is presented to an individual who has "made a significant and lasting contribution to the growth and development of Laredo and the South Texas region."
The selection of Mr. South Texas is decided on by the Mr. South Texas Selection Committee, a group of past WBCA presidents and former Mr. South Texas recipients.
D. Matthew Gibson, Chairperson for this year's Mr. South Texas Selection Committee, said "Porter S. Garner III's unwavering dedication to education, transformative leadership at The Association of Former Students, and impact in South Texas make him a standout choice for Mr. South Texas."
Garner III proclaimed his honor, saying that "as a a proud native of Laredo, I well know the significance and stature this recognition represents and I never imagined even being considered, much less being selected." He went on to say that he is "humbled to be among the many great Texas who have received this revered award."
