Richard Miller '87 April 11, 2023 12:41 PM updated: April 11, 2023 12:47 PM

Richard Earl Miller

January 1, 1965 - April 18, 2022

On April 18, 2022, Richard Earl Miller, of Aldie, VA, was surrounded by his family as his soul departed for his home with the Lord.

Richard was born on January 1, 1965 in San Diego, California to Aubrey Lynn Miller and Carol Lee (Miller) Allen. He graduated from Alvin High School in 1983 and went on to attend Texas A&M University where he received his B.S. in 1987 and his M.S. in 1989. Richard later returned to College Station and received his PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1999. Richard enjoyed sharing memories of life on campus; being an R.A., pizza at DoubleDave’s, Blue Bell ice cream, Aggie Bonfire, and being involved in Aggies for Christ.

Richard began his career as an electrical engineer at Texas Instruments, now Raytheon, in McKinney, Texas. He went on to work at Northrop Grumman, Lockeed Martin, SAIC, Ball Aerospace and The Aerospace Corporation. From 2004 through 2011 he also worked as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Oklahoma Christian University. He enjoyed the work God had given him, and he especially treasured the relationships with his colleagues and students. Richard thought it was important to encourage those interested in STEM so he volunteered to judge at local science fairs, represented his company at school STEM events, offered tutoring to high school students, and was involved with the Aerospace Corporation’s student mentor program.

Through his Northrup Grummen fellowship, Richard took graduate classes at UCLA. During this time, Richard met Michelle at the Culver Palms Church of Christ where they were both attending the college Bible class. One of their early dates was to attend the Pigskin Classic at Anaheim Stadium where Texas A&M played Stanford for a 10 to 7 victory. On March 26, 1994, they exchanged marriage vows at the church where they first met.

Richard was a loving husband and dedicated dad. He helped coach his children’s soccer teams and was a den leader, and eventually scoutmaster for his son’s Boy Scout troop. He even took up running when his daughter wanted to train for her first half marathon. Wherever he lived, Richard served God with the local church. He helped university students improve their English using the Bible, taught adult and children’s Bible classes along with Vacation Bible School in the summer, served at youth retreats, and also coached various teams in Leadership Training for Christ activities. Richard especially enjoyed being a growth group leader at church and facilitating a weekly men’s Bible study.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Miller; daughter, Carolyn Miller; son, Steven Miller; his mother, Carol Allen and her husband, Jim; his brother, Jeffrey Miller, his wife, Pam, and their children, Lily and Joshua.
