SGM Michael Duane Slentz

October 21, 1948 - September 1, 2022

Michael Duane Slentz went to the Lord September 1, 2022.

He was born October 21, 1948, in Bryan, TX. He grew up in Graham, TX and graduated from Graham High School. Michael attended Texas A & M University and was a member of the Corps of Cadets in preparation for a military career. He proudly served 27 years in the U.S. Army enjoying duty stations all over the world. He especially loved his 3 tours in Germany where his children were born. He is a Desert Storm Veteran being awarded the Bronze Star during his deployment and retired as a Sergeant Major. After the military, Michael retired from his second career with the Texas Dept. of Corrections.

Growing up an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and sport shooting, he also spent time in his younger years on the rodeo circuit as well as the U.S. military rodeo circuit. Michael dedicated 39 years to the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Temple. Michael has always attended the Church of the Nazarene becoming a full member in 2021.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lester J. and Wanda R. Slentz, sisters Lisa Dianne (Robert) Langford and Teri Lynn (David) Allison. Michael is survived by his children Brittnay Yvonne (Ryan) Johnson, Shaina Rahe (Derek) Lane and Michael Jean (Kirsten Evans). He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Jacob Cody, Stetson Duane, Harper Kay, Michael David Douglas and Sutton Rahe who will arrive this November.

Michael battled Parkinson’s disease for the better part of 13 years and heart failure for the past two. Michael will truly be missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him; as well as his care providers, sitters and his home health family.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to one of his favorite charities listed below: your local humane society, Shriners Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, Texas Children’s Hospital, St. Jude, South Plains Food Bank, Meals on Wheels or Vet Dogs of America.

A visitation for Michael will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407.
