James Carrol Nash, ll

February 2, 1941 - December 5, 2022

Memorial services honoring the life of James C. Nash, II, 81 years of Leona, Texas, will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Joel Douget will officiate the service, assisted by John Spencer and Troy Morris.

James C. Nash, II was born February 2, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas, the only child of James C. & Catherine (Abbott) Nash. He grew up in Leon County and was a graduate of Centerville High School. James went on to graduate from Texas A & M in 1963. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and worked as a rancher his entire life. Farming was a strong passion of James', as well. He was once part of a committee that helped eradicate boll weevils from cotton crops in Leon County.

James was viewed as a local historian and enjoyed participating in civil war reenactments. He was even invited to be a part of two civil war era movies, "Gettysburg" and "Glory." James loved to read and was a published author, having numerous articles and short stories in the Houston Post, as well as several agriculture publications. He was also an avid hunter and gunsmith. James was also instrumental in founding the Leona Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 40 plus years and was also one of the initial organizers of the annual Centerville Fourth of July fireworks show. James and his wife, Norma were members of Mt. Tabor Church of Christ. James also had the honor of serving as a Deacon and Elder at previous church memberships.

James passed away December 5, 2022 in Madison County, Texas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and first wife, Jeanie (Guthrie) Nash. Surviving family members include wife, Norma Nash of Leona; sons, Mike Nash (Stephanie) of Bedias, James C. Nash, III of Leona and Robert Nash (Sara) of Leona; grandchildren, Carlie, Rusty, Heather, Jeanie, Harper, Britton, and Clayton; step-grandchildren, Robert, II, Justin and Michael Langley, as well as great-granddaughter, Emma Louise Miller. Also surviving are several "honorary" sons including Danny Wilkerson, Josh Donaho, Matt Clark, Stacey Crook, Omar Adkins, Marty Holmes, and “honorary” grandchildren Layla Clark and John Winston Clark.

Honorary Pallbearers: Britton Nash, Clayton Nash, Rusty Nash, Charles Nash, Cole Wilkerson, Bubba Oden, Sean “Opie” Oltman, and James' Aggie Family from Spider D, Texas A & M Corps of Cadets; Harry Bob Martin, Larry Mayo, Jim Peters, Pete Flores, Glenn Kiel, John Tibbels, Bill Royal, Bob Carter, and Phil Grant.

The family also wishes to express the deepest of thanks to all the dedicated Doctors, Nurses, and Care Givers that demonstrated sincere compassion and caring throughout James’ 11-year battle with cancer.
