Dr. John Breaks Scroggin
October 15, 1928 - September 16, 2021

Dr. John Breaks Scroggin, age 92, of Bowman Road, Granite Falls, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 at his residence. He was born October 15, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Guy Thomas and Caroline Johnson Scroggin. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Carlisle Scroggin; his siblings, Guy T. Scroggin, Dennis Scroggin and Floyd Scroggin.

He was raised in San Antonio, Texas where he graduated from Texas A&M with a Master’s Degree in Wildlife Management, as well as completing Medical School at the University of Texas in 1960. Dr. Scroggin moved to NC in 1960 to complete his residency at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. He fell in love with the State of NC and remained in NC the remainder of his life.

Doc was a much beloved General Practitioner in Brevard, NC and Lenoir, NC for more than 40 years. “Doc” was a lover of nature, gardening and plants and was a founding member of the Master’s Gardners Club of Caldwell County.

Survivors include three sons, John Scroggin, Jr. of Lenoir, Bruce Scroggin and wife Juanita of Amite, Louisiana, and Michael D. Scroggin and wife Jennifer of Florida; one daughter, Nancy S. Boelter; five grandchildren, Rachel Dibben and husband Nathan, Evan Boelter, Sean Boelter, Zachary Scroggin and Nicholas Scroggin.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at St. James Episcopal Church conducted by Rev. Susan Buchanan.

Due to COVID-19 masks and social distancing will be required.
