Some of you may know that I coach a top 5 Georgia U19 boys soccer team (though I never played). The team is a blue collar team where most of the kids work to pay their own way and I volunteer to keep fees low. These are the kids that never get seen by colleges or professional teams because the cost to play travel soccer is so expensive. This is our last year before the guys graduate and we are seeking to place them all in college soccer programs. We see soccer as a pathway to attending college. We were accepted to the Disney Soccer Showcase at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando. Only the top US and International teams are accepted. Then we had to raise $8,000 to attend.
On Dec 31, we won the Championship! We were down 2-0 in the final with 18 minutes left and scored 4 straight goals to win 4-3. We were the highest scoring U19 team in the tournament with 14 goals scored by 9 different players. We had a lot of college coaches recruit our players during and after the tournament so now working hard to get these guys into college.
