Volunteer Trip to Navajoland 2019

Charis Roueche '92 April 11, 2019 8:13 AM updated: April 11, 2019 11:27 AM

Howdy!

This June I will be travelling to Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance AZ to work as part of a group of 25 to 35 volunteers from St Andrew's Episcopal church in Bryan, TX.

The Navajo have established a soap factory at the mission. There are fields of crops and a greenhouse as well. Veterinary students go along with the group and provide valuable services to the local community.

The group takes 3 vans. We are leaving June 21st and returning June 28th. If you want to join us for that week in June, or if you have a van you are willing to loan us, that would be a real blessing !

My personal effort includes donating fabrics for the Women of Kindness quilters at the Good Shepherd Mission. If you or your spouse would like to help me by donating either cotton fabrics, quilting supplies or money to help my personal "mission" for the Navajo quilters, I have established a GoFundMe  account with the title Navajo Quilters at Good Shepherd Mission. All the details are there.

You can go to www.goodshepmission.org to verify the existence of the Navajo quilters group. They have photos of some of their quilts posted. I have mailed 14 yards if a beautiful fabric to them already.

THANK YOU FOR ANY WAY YOU CHOOSE TO HELP !
