Creating My Own Aggie Ring Scholarship

I truly believe that if you attend Texas A&M University you deserve an Aggie Ring. That is something an Aggie will wear for the rest of their life. I don’t carry my diploma around or wear my cap and gown from graduation, but my Aggie Ring is on my hand every day. It pains me to know there are Aggies out there that will graduate without the opportunity to order their Aggie Ring or have a Ring Day. So I set out with a goal of purchasing one Aggie ring for a student. And lucky me: I GOT TWO!

Most scholarships are $25,000 endowed scholarships... but I am only 25 years old so I told the Association I wanted to do ONE Aggie Ring per year––and I wanted it to be personal. I sent her criteria for an ideal candidate: minimum 3.0 GPA, involved in student organizations, ideally help a job while a student, first generation Aggie or college student, and in the College of Education.

With a $1,000 donation, I could pay for one male Aggie Ring or two female Aggie Rings. Through the application process, two outstanding females candidates stood that fit the criteria and my budget––perfect!

The process had some difficulties, but the Association was very helpful. My request for this scholarship was rather unique, so I was passed around a bit until I ended up with Sheila Nelson. She said that what I was doing was pretty rare, but they can make it happen.

A few months later and the day finally arrived––I officially met my scholarship recipients and attended their Aggie Ring Day! Easily my FAVORITE part of this process. Seeing the two Aggies I gifted rings to was so incredibly rewarding; I can’t really describe how impactful it was. I am so excited to continue scholarship and hope that I can continue to impact individuals every year.
