Learn about the tradition of yell leaders at Texas A&M!

A recent Texas A&M Foundation article offers “12 things to know about the yell leaders.” Find out how a new yell was created in the 1970s, how Midnight Yell began in 1931, and how the victory tradition of throwing them into Fish Pond began!

You can also delve into the yell leaders’ history in The Association’s Traditions Through Time feature. In the “Yell Leaders” story, learn the origins of their colorful overalls and
how the style of leading yells has changed through the years.

Former yell leaders visited The Association to help us make a video showing some of the changes:

This fall, the A&M yell leaders will help The Association bring Aggies together in Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and North Texas. The Association secures locations for Midnight Yell Practice at away games and pays for the yell leaders’ hotel rooms.

For home-game Midnight Yell Practice, Association donors typically provide $20,000 to $30,000 per year to provide required security for the 120,000 Aggies who attend.
