Birth Date: September 8, 1933 Death Date: February 19, 2018

Vernoy V. “Vernie” Godwin Jr., age 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday February 19, 2018. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 24, 2018 at 12:30 PM at the Floral Haven Chapel at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2018, with family present from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A reception will follow at the Floral Haven Family Center following the funeral service.

Vernoy V. Godwin Jr. was born on September 8, 1933 in Warren Arkansas to Vernoy V. Godwin Sr. and Phenton Price Godwin. After graduating from Warren High School Class of 1951, Vernie attended Texas A & M University and was in the 1955 graduating class of the Corp of Cadets. He married his High School sweetheart Martha Lee Grider. He majored in and received his degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, Vernie served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. After his honorable discharge from the service, they moved to Houston Texas. After working a brief time with the Internal Revenue Service, Vernie went to work for Pan American Petroleum. Pan American Petroleum the forerunner to Amoco Production Company moved the Godwin Family to Tulsa in 1965. Vernie and Martha raised 5 children, all graduates of Tulsa Memorial High School.

Vernie enjoyed cheering his Texas A&M Aggies and attending as many games as possible, coaching little league sports for many years, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Vernie will be remembered for his sense of humor, and always having a joke to tell and being a loving husband and provider for his family.

Vernie is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Margaret (Angel), Joyce, and his twin sister Virginia (Ginny), and one daughter, Kimberly Jean Godwin White. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Martha, two daughters, Sharon Queen and husband Doug of Houston Texas, and Gini Hudson and husband Charles of Rogers Arkansas, and two sons, Vernoy V. Godwin III “Trey” and wife Natalie of Jenks Oklahoma, and Jon Godwin and wife Melanie of Broken Arrow Oklahoma. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Clarehouse of Tulsa or the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
