Matt Gee '15, former resident of Houston, TX, took a leap of faith this year, packed all his things (including his beautiful '66 Mustang), and headed to the West Coast!
"At certain points in life, opportunities sometimes present you with a choice. A choice to question the current reality and lifestyle that you have built for yourself, and a choice to leave that reality and lifestyle in hopes of building it elsewhere. This
choice personally came in the form of a job offer from Facebook at the end of 2017, which would be based in the tech-steeped Silicon Valley area, just south of San Francisco.
As a Texan born and raised, my deeply-set roots were now in question. Could I leave the state that I have grown up to love and cherish? Could I actually part ways with Whataburger, Shiner, cheap gas, affordable rent, or more importantly, friends and family?
I made a tough decision to leave the life that I know in Texas, but in return have been rewarded with an exciting job, new friends, and a beautiful city with iconic coastlines and landmarks at my fingertips. Since moving to California, I have witnessed the
power of the Aggie network through the old classmates who welcomed me to this new area, and I hope to do the same for future Aggie transplants moving to the Bay Area!"
Even through the Whataburger withdrawals, Matt is making waves in California at Facebook, and also pursuing his photography talents and passion on the side. If you're in the San Francisco/Silicon Valley area, be sure to reach out to Matt!
