Alice Kristina Hejl of Dallas, went to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, after her battle with advanced stage breast cancer. She fought a good fight, but in the end her frail and weak body could not keep up with her strong mind and spirit.
She was 41 years old.
Alice was born on Nov. 24, 1976, in Austin to Kay and Ted Hejl of Taylor.
Alice graduated from Taylor High School in 1994, with honors and attended Texas A&M University, where she graduated in 1999, with a degree in Nutritional Sciences.
Her next educational endeavor led her to The University of Texas at Southwestern Medical Center, where she received an Allied Health Science degree in 2002.
During her time at Texas A&M she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority as well as a business fraternity. Upon graduation she began her career as a registered dietitian on the oncology floors at Parkland Hospital.
During her time at Parkland she published an article on T.P.N. and also trained and supervised new staff.
Alice enjoyed many pastimes outside of work. Her creativity was evident in her gardening skills as she worked to beautify her yard. One spring, she managed to plant several hundred tulip bulbs.
Her other hobbies included reading, exercising,
cooking, and doing home repair projects. In addition,
Alice enjoyed traveling with her family, and in particular cruising the blue waters of the Caribbean.
Alice had a generous heart and gave of her time to various charitable endeavors such as mentoring elementary students on the benefits of proper nutrition and also serving meals to the underprivileged. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church,
where she participated in many Bible studies and Sunday school.
Alice had a love of the arts and enjoyed the opera and theater in Dallas and New York. The “Nutcracker Ballet at Christmas” was a special highlight.
Her love for her family was exemplified through the time she shared with her nieces and nephews. Holidays meant the world to her as she could spend special time with each of them playing games and caring for them.
We will always remember and cherish Alice’s sweet demeanor and her infectious laugh. Her gorgeous
smile could light up any room. Her passing was a tragic loss for us, but an incredible gain for God.
We believe she will be working diligently through people on Earth to find a cure for cancer, which is what she always wanted to do in life.
Alice is survived by her loving parents Kay and Ted Hejl of
Taylor; her oldest sister Ellen Sterin and husband Steven of Southlake; sister Jennifer George and husband Michael of University Park; nieces Ashley and Kate Sterin; nephews Charlie, Jonathan, and Joshua George and niece Sloane George. She is also survived
by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Alice’s family would like to offer special thanks to all of the medical staff that cared for her so lovingly at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Dallas.
