The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents elected Charles W. Schwartz to serve as chairman and re-elected Elaine Mendoza '87 as vice chairman.
Schwartz, whose term as a regent expires Feb. 1, 2019, will serve a two-year term as chairman, replacing former Board Chairman Cliff Thomas '72. Thomas will remain on the board, as Gov. Greg Abbott has re-appointed him to a second term, expiring Feb. 1, 2023. Mendoza was also appointed by Abbott to serve another six-year term as regent.
Schwartz, of Houston, is a securities litigator and mergers & acquisitions expert. He graduated from The University of Texas School of Law in 1977 and Harvard Law School with an LL.M. in 1980. He was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Rick Perry in 2013.
