55 Students Earn Buck Weirus Spirit Awards

This weekend, 55 students received the Buck Weirus Spirit Award, one of the highest awards Texas A&M students can earn.

These Aggies were honored for being highly involved, creating positive experiences throughout the Aggie community and making a true impact on student life at Texas A&M. They have contributed to Texas A&M through participation in student organizations, traditions and university events.

Richard "Buck" Weirus '42 served as executive director of The Association of Former Students from 1964 to 1980. Known as “Mr. Aggie Spirit,” Weirus was passionate about Texas A&M and Texas Aggies throughout his life. Because of Weirus' leadership, vision, and support of student involvement, the Buck Weirus Spirit Award was established by The Association's Board of Directors in 1982. The award annually recognizes up to 55 students for their outstanding contributions to student life programs at Texas A&M University.

On April 1, members of the Weirus family, friends and coworkers gathered at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center for a dedication ceremony as Weirus' Aggie Ring and the Aggie sweetheart ring of his wife, Claire, were were added to the Legacy exhibit at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center. The story and photos from that event are here
