Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has nominated Tim Leach '82 of Midland to a seat on the Board of Regents of The Texas A&M University System. Abbot also nominated two sitting regents to serve second terms: Cliff Thomas '72 of Victoria and Elaine Mendoza '87 of San Antonio.
The three nominations require confirmation by the Texas Senate. The terms would run Feb. 1, 2017, through Feb. 1, 2023.
Leach is a member of the Dwight Look College of Engineering’s advisory council and a member of the Board of Directors of The Association of Former Students. Leach--the chairman, CEO and president of Concho Resources--would succeed Judy Morgan of Texarkana, who served one six-year term.
Sitting regents whose terms run through 2019 are Tony Buzbee '90 and Charles Schwartz of Houston, and Morris Foster '65 of Austin. Regents whose terms run through 2021 are Phil Adams '70 of Bryan, Bob Albritton '71 of Fort Worth, and Bill Mahomes Jr. '69 of Dallas.
Thomas is the current chair and Mendoza the current vice chair of the Board of Regents.
