Lost Aggie Ring Gets Back Where It Belongs

Don Burrow '56 May 6, 2016 2:00 PM updated: June 7, 2017 10:37 AM

On March 15, I with my wife , Ann, drove from Huntsville to Houston to attend a lunch with members of the classes of '55, '56 and '57 at Luby’s cafeteria near the intersection of Westheimer and Fondren Road.

The meeting was to start at 11:30. We arrived early in the parking lot and then decided to drive across the street to visit a furniture store and look around. We went in the store, Danish Inspirations,  and a lady, Michaele Villasenor, came to the front and asked if she could help us, I said no, we were just looking, We looked at the furniture and then went back across the street to Luby’s.

Some of the members attending the meeting were Herb Wolf, Frank Westmoreland, usually Bob Sears, Paul Holladay and Harold Sellars (but not there that day).

The next day, March 16, I realized I did not have my Aggie Ring. I did not tell anyone; I just felt bad and thought that was the end of the Ring.

On March 21, Ann and I drove to College Station for the 2016 Sul Ross Reunion. On March 22 at noon, we were attending the lunch at the MSC and sitting at a table with Bob Sears, Frank Westmoreland, and their wives. I received a call on my cell phone.

The call was from a lady at The Association of Former Students and she asked had I lost my Aggie Ring.

I said yes, and then she gave me the name and number of the lady from the furniture store. I was told that the ring was found in the parking lot of the store. I called Michaele and told her who I was and she told me that, yes, she had the Ring.

I asked if I could reward her and she said no. In the past she had known a member of the Class of '79 and she understood the importance of the Aggie Ring to each of us.
