Dr. Edward Allen Carrigo, III
June 4, 1943 - March 19, 2016
Edward Allen Carrigo, III was born on June 4, 1943 to Edward and Glo Val Carrigo in San Antonio, Texas. On May 30, 2013, Allen married Darlene Hines in Lubbock, Texas.
Allen followed in his father’s footsteps when he entered the Army after graduation from Texas A & M University in 1967. At graduation he married Bernadette Proudfoot, the mother of his four children. His career spanned 25 years as he served in Viet Nam, Desert
Storm, and at the Pentagon climbing the ranks to Lt. Col before retirement from the Army.
He earned his Master’s degree from Syracuse University and ultimately was awarded his doctoral degree from Texas Tech University in 1992. While completing his Doctoral degree he worked part time for the Northwest Texas Small Business Development Center(NWTSBDC)
at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
Upon completion of his doctoral degree he accepted a position as Assistant Director for Operations at the NWTSBDC in July of 1992. Allen enthusiastically embraced their mission and was dedicated to helping the small businesses in the area and continued to guide
the program for the next 22 years. Under his leadership the program was awarded the inaugural National SBDC of the Year award in 2008.
Through the years Allen successfully guided the NWTSBDC in adding new programs that provided assistance to the small businesses of Northwest Texas. Through his leadership the group successfully added the Business and Industry Data Center, the Regional Economic
Assistance Program as well as sustaining the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center, the International Trade Center, and the Procurement Assistance Center. He served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center and was instrumental
in securing the SBIR/STTR FAST Grant for the State of Texas numerous times. Dedication and leadership were what Allen was all about. Having been a career military officer, veterans were near and dear to his heart. He was a tireless advocate for retiring veterans
in helping them access every available program that could assist them in opening their new business and expand an existing one. He was a consultant to several Federal Agencies on developing effective programs for veterans in opening and sustaining their own
businesses.
Allen retired from the NWTSBDC on August 31, 2014 and embraced this new adventure with the same level of excitement and enthusiasm as he did with everything else he ever was involved with.
