Richard C. "Rick" Smith, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 14, 2016. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 27, 1939. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Lloyd S. Smith; mother, Margaret J. (Wooten) Smith; and
brother, George R. Smith.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Setta Smith; daughter, Margie Thurman and husband Toby; daughter, Denise Sutton and husband Tom; and son, Skip Smith and Lynlie Keplinger. Rick is also survived by seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
and two younger brothers, Greg Smith of Lampasas, and Ron Smith of Georgetown.
Rick graduated from Lampasas High School in 1957, where he played varsity football. He attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Squadron 15, and a Ross Volunteer. Rick graduated from A&M with a BBA in Management and distinguished
military honors in 1962. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force as a second lieutenant. Rick earned his pilot and navigator ratings and served as a combat flight navigator on C130 and C141 aircraft during the Vietnam War. He resigned from
the Air Force a highly decorated officer with the rank of Captain in 1969. Rick went to work in private industry for Texas Instruments in Human Resources where he was employed for five years. Rick was then recruited to Motorola to become the first Personnel
Director for the newly begun Austin operations. Rick’s intellect and leadership abilities were soon recognized resulting in his promotion to Vice-President of Human Resources. Rick was employed with Motorola for twenty-five years living in Austin, Tokyo, Japan
and Phoenix. He retired in 1999. Rick was extremely energetic in business and civic service organizations and was recognized for contributions throughout his life. He served his alma mater as a member of the Board of Directors for the Mays International School
of Business at Texas A&M, and as Chairman of the Economic Development Council for the City of Georgetown, Texas. His leadership, generosity, sense of humor and loyalty were a benefit to all and will be missed.

A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Ramsey Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church Georgetown.
