Jay C. Buenger Jimmie
March 18, 1924 - December 27, 2015
Jay C. “Jimmie” Buenger was born on March 18, 1924 to Jesse C. & Elsa Buenger, in the Star Hill community, near Industry, Texas. He was baptized and confirmed in the Industry United Methodist Church. Jimmie was a lifelong resident of Industry, spending his
last sixteen months at LaRoche Manor Assisted Living Facility in Brenham, Texas. He passed from this earthly life on December 27, 2015 at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 9 days.
Jimmie was married to Bernita “Bitsy” Jurchak on July 11, 1954 at Welcome Lutheran Church. The ceremony was held at Welcome School due to the construction of the new church building. The couple built a home in Industry and spent all their married years there.
He began his education in Industry School and later went to Bellville High School, graduating in the class of 1940. He graduated high school at the age of 16, having skipped one year and completing the standard eleven grades. He attended Texas A&M as a member
of the class of 1944, but his college career was cut short when he joined the army in 1943. Jimmie served until 1946 as a corporal in the 515th Field Artillery during WWII in the European conflict.
In 1946 he returned home from the service to help out with the family car dealership. In 1957 Jimmie and his sister, Ora Ludwig, became co-owners of the business, Buenger Chevrolet, in Industry. They took over the company from their father, Jesse, who started
it in May of 1931. He also operated Jay C. Buenger Insurance Agency from the dealership. At their retirement, the business was sold and is presently Tegeler Chevrolet.
Jimmie was a member of the Industry State Bank Board of Directors from 1958 to 2003, serving as Chairman of the Board from 1992 until he retired. He was a member of the Industry Volunteer Fire Department and the West End Water Supply board. He was a charter
member of the West End Lions Club, serving regularly as an officer, but most notoriously as the tail-twister for not only the local club, but also at the district and state level, making people laugh everywhere. Jimmie was a person of quick wit, always positive
and finding humor in every situation. He was an active member of Welcome Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and attending services weekly until his health kept him away.
Jimmie Buenger loved sports. He was a recreational golfer, once scoring a hole-in-one. He developed a passion for bowling and the fun and fellowship of several leagues in which he participated. His office was decorated with numerous trophies. When his sons
were old enough, he began to coach them in Little League, and his sports interest shifted to his family. Whenever one of the kids, and later the grandkids, took to the field or court, he was there. He NEVER missed a game, and many times he was the only fan
in the stands.
He especially loved his grandchildren and cherished every moment of their lives. Anyone who knew him no doubt heard stories about the heroics of Jay, Clint, Jess, Kate and Justin. His world revolved around them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Elsa Buenger; his wife, Bernita Buenger; and his sister, Ora Ludwig.
He is survived by sons, Greg Buenger and his wife, Anneta; Bruce Buenger and his wife, Cheryl; grandchildren, Jay Buenger and his wife, Elizabeth; Clint Buenger and his wife, Sarah; Jess Buenger and his wife, Amanda; Kate Buenger; and Justin Buenger; great-grandchildren,
Jack, Ryan and Addison; and his sister-in-law, Gladys Oakley.
