ROBERT EDGAR CUMMER(1919 - 2015)
Robert Edgar Cummer "Bob" of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed peacefully on the evening of December 2nd, 2015 at the age of 96. His daughter Carolyn was at his side. Bob was born on May 26th, 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri to Bernard Francis Michel and Florence Evelyn Cummer. Due to unusual circumstances he was raised by his maternal grandfather, Arthur Edwin Cummer, and later on by his Aunt Lillian Douglas and her husband Clint Douglas, who at that time lived in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, where he would eventually meet his wife. Bob attended Texas A& M in the ROTC program and received an engineering degree. After graduation he entered into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and served during WWII. Later in life Bob went on to earn his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan. Bob married Clara Evelyn "Clarlyn" Cleese on March 15th, 1942 at Camp Blanding, Florida. Bob is survived by five children, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Children: Thomas Robert Cummer of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Barbara Bergers (husband Randy), of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Carolyn Gendron (husband John Mercer) of Portland, Oregon, Debbie Burr (husband Dennis) of Florissant, Colorado; Catherine Forsyth of Braymer, Missouri. Grandchildren: Kristen Bergers Fauson, Ryan Bergers, Robert Booth, Katie Saleutogi and Erin Forsyth. Great grandchildren: James, Jack and Jonah Bergers, Ella, Alexa and Ford Fauson, Alex Booth and Knox Saleutogi. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Charles Robert Cummer, who passed on September 21st, 2014, his precious great granddaughter, Ana Catherine Scarlett Saleutogi who passed on April 22nd 2013, his brother William Francis Cummer on March 8th, 2002 in Shreveport Louisiana and his brother Edwin Romaine Cummer of Missoula Montana. Clarlyn died on December 7th, 1974 in Nassau, Bahamas. In 1977 Bob met and married Virginia Lester Kaiser in Kansas City, Missouri. Virginia passed away December 22nd, 1997 in Corpus Christi, Texas. After working for Green Lawn Sprinkler Systems and Gates Rubber Company, both in the Denver area, Bob began his successful career in sales and marketing with Whitaker Cable Corporation. This job took him to Minnesota, Michigan and finally to Kansas City, Missouri where he achieved the status of Senior Vice President of Marketing. Bob retired in 1984 and he and Virginia moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, where they attended the Bella Vista Community Church. Here Bob spent his days fishing and playing golf. Mostly golf! Bob and Virginia did a great deal of traveling, both in the United States and abroad. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19th, 2015 at 10:00 am. The service will be held at Brookdale Village at Skyline, 2365 Patriot Heights, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the Skyline Room.
