Donald Linus Tschirhart
Born in Hondo, Texas on Jan. 17, 1931
Departed on Aug. 30, 2015 and resided in Hondo, TX.
Donald Linus Tschirhart was born in Hondo, Texas, on Jan. 17, 1931, to Linus Bernard and Ella Matilda Brucks Tschirhart.
He went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015. He was 84.
He was a graduate of St. John's Catholic School, Hondo High School and Texas A&M University (class of '52).
He served in Korea and, after his discharge from the Army, he married Olga Marie Rieber.
Don worked seven years as an appliance and T.V. sales and serviceman, then went to work for a contractor with the Department of Energy at Medina Base. When the base closed, he was transferred to Pantex Plant (Amarillo, TX) where he worked for 25 years.
When Don retired in 1990, he and Olga Marie moved back to Medina County where he spent the remaining years of his life raising cattle and working the land with his wife on the Rieber Ranch.
He was a member of St. John's Parish, Hermann Sons Hondo Lodge 236, the Quihi Gun Club, and a former member of the Hondo Volunteer Fire Department.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepfather, Elmer S. Bader; grandson, Jason Don Speck; brother, James "Chick" Tschirhart, and sister-in-law, Betty Thigpen.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; his sons, Matt (Janis) Tschirhart and Paul (Edda) Tschirhart; his daughters, Linda Tschirhart, Janice (Jim) Whitehead, and Mary Tschirhart. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joel (Jenny) Whitehead, Mark (Myra) Tschirhart,
Austin Tschirhart, Christopher Tschirhart, Sky Tschirhart; great-grandson, Wesley Whitehead; brother, Lloyd (Anita) Tschirhart; sister-in-law, Aurline Tschirhart; brother-in-law, Albert Thigpen; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 6 to 8 p.m., with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 3, 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum.
