William Hawley "Bill" Allen

William Hawley 'Bill' Allen passed away on August 2, 2008 at the age of 79.
Services for Bill will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the Robert Lee Baptist Church with interment in Robert Lee Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Bill was born on July 21, 1929, in Robert Lee, an only child, to Gerald C. and Ione Allen. He graduated from Robert Lee High School in 1946 and married Bobbie Burns in 1951. He was commissioned in the army after graduation from A & M University in Entomology
in 1951. He was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston and Ft. Mead in Maryland before going to Korea. He received the Bronze Star Medal and three of his units were awarded the meritorious unit commendation. He returned to Robert Lee to ranch and later went into banking
at the Robert Lee State Bank where he worked for 48 years and was elected President and Chairman of the Board. Bill was a lifetime member of the Robert Lee Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school superintendent, teacher and deacon as well as on many committees.
He also served as president of the Board of Community Development and on the board of directors of the Robert Lee Housing Authority, Coke County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Upper Colorado River Authority.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ione Allen; and his grandparents, Hawley and Amelia Allen and Will and Ollie Cumbie.
Survivors include: his wife, Bobbie Allen of Robert Lee; daughter, Sterling and son-in-law, Stephen Myers and son, Clay and daughter-in-law, Robin Allen of Robert Lee; and grandchildren, Foster Allen of Robert Lee, Shannon Honse of Lake Dallas, TX. and Kevin
Honse of Los Angeles, CA.
Serving as pallbearers will be B. W. Roe, Eddie Good, Glen Henderson, Bill Green, Dub Metcalf, James Petty, Billy Blair and Jesse Flores.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Boatright, Tom Clay, Weldon Fikes, A. C. Leifeste, Jimmy Bickley, Ernest Clendennen, Willis Smith, Tommy Antilley, and D. J. Walker.
The family would like to personally thank Dr. Ty Hughston and the staff of 5 North at Shannon Hospital.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Robert Lee Baptist Church or you charity of choice.
