Dawn Alice’ Thomas
6/17/1964 - 8/7/2015
Dawn Alice’ Thomas, 51, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2015, with her brother John and husband Bryan by her side. Dawn was born in London, England, on June 17, 1964.In 1969, her family moved to the west side of Houston, Texas, where
Dawn attended Thornwood Elementary, Westchester Junior High, and Stratford High School.
From early childhood, Dawn realized that education was a key component to her success and independence. Dawn excelled in everything she set out to accomplish; she was a 1st chair violinist, an accomplished pianist, and flutist and at the top of her class academically.
She graduated from Texas A&M University summa cum laude in 1985 with a degree in mathematics. After one year with Exxon, Dawn entered civil service with NASA in 1986.
At NASA, her dedication and persistence were well recognized through her work in the Mission Operations Directorate, International Space Station Program Office, and the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate. She was a two-time recipient of the NASA Exceptional
Service Medal and a Silver Snoopy Award recipient.
In 2006, Dawn married her husband, Bryan, and together they set out on a journey to achieve her most coveted achievement - the birth of their daughters, Katherine and Megan - in 2009.
Dawn was an eternal optimist, believing that there was nothing that one could not accomplish in life if there was sufficient will to do so. She believed strongly in healthy eating, spirituality, and connecting with the universe through yoga and meditation.
In the face of insurmountable medical complications, Dawn continued to be the strength of her family and always reminded us that “this too shall pass.”Dawn sacrificed everything she had to ensure that Katherine and Megan started their own life’s journey knowing
the importance of education, inner self strength, independence, and a love of life’s daily miracles.
A memorial service to celebrate Dawn’s life will be on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 10:00 AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 1804 South Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Rev. Ralph Hobratschk officiating.Friends are cordially invited to the reception immediately
