James "Jim" Robert Douglas
Born: October 23, 1943
Died: July 22, 2015
James Robert Douglas, (Jim) was born October 23, 1943 in Robersonville, North Carolina and passed away July 22, 2015 at the age of 71.
He always said, “He wasn’t born in Texas but got here as soon as he could.” He arrived in 1949. He attended Sam Houston Elementary, Baker Junior High and W.B. Ray High School, graduating in 1962. Jim went on to graduate in 1966 from Texas A&M with a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Geology where he was also was a member of the Texas A&M Corp of Cadets. He served in the US Army 2nd Infantry with his last duty station being in Korea.
Jim always wanted to pursue the same oilfield career as his father Dee Douglas.
He initially worked for Milchem, an oilfield service company, and with Cities Services Oil Company, working primarily out of Houston and the Gulf of Mexico as an offshore drilling consultant. After resigning from Cities Services, he started a consulting company
called Douglas Petroleum, Inc., where he became an independent oil and gas operator. He helped start Arrow Drilling Company in 1984 and consulted for Coastal States Oil & Gas and El Paso Corporation until retirement in 2011. During this time he also worked
as a Landman in acquiring the Mary Rhodes Water Pipeline right-of way
His most favored hobby was fishing in Baffin Bay & South Padre Island with family and friends. He spent 10 wonderful years as part owner of the “Twin Palms” cabin on Baffin Bay. Jim married the love of his life, Marty in November of 1973 and they had a wonderful
and adventurous life together.
Jim is survived by his wife Marty (Martha Lea) their five children, Sherri Burdett Barnick (Phillip), Lisa Helle, Diana Dodson (Richard), Cathy Swartz (Calvin), and Mike Douglas (Ashley), 12 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and his honorary son from
Norway, Fredik Wille (Karen). He is also survived by his sister Brenda Dalton, nephew John Douglas, and niece Jacqueline Sutton and their families. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Delos and Ruth Douglas.
Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at Maxwell P. Dunne Chapel with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
