Mark E. Smith
January 28, 1957 - June 3, 2015
Mark Smith, 58, of College Station, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Christ United Methodist Church, 4201 State Highway 6 S in College Station with Reverend
Jerry House officiating. A celebration of life will be held at the church following the service.
Mark was born on January 28, 1957 to Robert Lee and Nancy (Belk) Smith in Galveston, Texas. He lived in Dickinson for four years, then in Brownsville until he began high school. He graduated from Memorial High School in Houston, TX in 1975 and attended Texas
A&M University from 1975 to 1977, studying mechanical engineering. After attending Texas A&M, his love for mechanics brought him to Clear Lake where he was head mechanic at a repair shop. During this time, he became involved in racing and sailing, winning
the NHRA Division IV Championship. He also represented Texas at a national catamaran sailing competition in Washington. In 1982, he returned to College Station and opened up a shop which later became Professional Car Services, Inc. and was in business until
2010. Mark met and fell in love with his wife Lisa in 1996, and they were married on October 25, 1997.
Mark was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in College Station. He was also involved with Orphans Friend Lodge #17 where he was a Master Mason. As a life member of the NRA, he served as treasurer of the Bryan-College Station Friends of the NRA
for several years. He was also a member of the Grimes County Greys Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Grimes County Jaycees, serving as coach for the National Champion BB Gun Team. Mark pursued knowledge with gusto; when he became focused on a topic, he
had to master it. An avid history enthusiast, he was a skilled woodworker, and also enjoyed shooting sports, home brewing, and bread baking.
Mark is preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Anne Smith, and mother-in-law, Gussie Kalmus.
Mark leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years, Lisa; daughters, Lindsey (10) and Shelby (14); parents, Robert and Nancy; siblings Laura Cook and husband David of Carlos, TX; nephews, Richard Troxell III and wife Shelby of Sunnyvale, CA, and Sean Cook, wife
Breanna and son Nolan of New Orleans, LA; father-in-law, Jimmy Kalmus of Rosenberg, TX; and constant canine companion.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Michael’s Episcopal School, 2500 S College Ave, Bryan, TX 77801 or Brazos Valley TROUPE, P.O. Box CK, College Station, TX 77841.
