David Albert Kesey
August 15, 1949 - May 6, 2015

Minister David Albert Kesey of Fort Mill, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 6, 2015 at the age of 65. He was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2014.

David was born David Albert Dow on August 15, 1949 in Albuquerque, NM. His parents were USAF Master Sgt. Roy Elonzo Dow and Madeleine Marie Zimmer Dow. He was raised by an aunt and uncle, Ray and Inez Dow Kesey in Pecos, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1967.

In 1971, David graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. While there as a student, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, and The Singing Cadets, all four years. He was also commissioned as an officer in the USAF upon graduation and served as a First Lieutenant and Missile Launch Officer (Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles) at Minot Air Force Base in Minot, ND. After several years of inactive reserve duty, David was honorably discharged from the USAF in 1981.

David attended and studied at the Advanced Studies Program at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. In 1974, he was licensed to preach the gospel by his home church, First Baptist Church of Pecos, TX. He also completed advanced Biblical study at the International Christian Graduate University in 1978.

He spent many years ministering to college students with Campus Crusade for Christ. He also ministered to college athletes with Athletes in Action, singles in Dallas, TX, and church leaders, via the "Here's Life America" campaign of Campus Crusade for Christ. He ministered at many campuses including, Oklahoma University, Texas Tech University (twice), West Chester University, and West Virginia University.

On August 10, 1985 David married the love of his life, Susan Davis Crane from Moreland Hills, OH. They were partners in ministry out of their home and church, in West Chester, PA, Morgantown, WV, Lubbock, TX, Plano, TX, College Station, TX, and Pineville, NC, until his death. They have been blessed with 4 wonderful children: Kristopher Lee Kesey "Kris" (1991), David Edward Kesey "Davy" (1994), Jonathan Roland Kesey "Jon" (1996), and Katherine Janet Kesey "Katie" (1996). All of them were born in or near, Lubbock, TX.

Before moving to Fort Mill in 2010, David and his wife Sue served on the church staff of Chestnut Ridge Church, in Morgantown, WV for four and a half years, counseling church attendees regarding church membership, eternal life, and baptism.

After serving Christ in a variety of ministries throughout his life, in May of 2012, Mr. Kesey was ordained as a minister by GraceLife Church of Pineville (formerly Stough Memorial Baptist Church), gracelifepineville.com. From that time, he served as the Minister of Assimilation there. A discipleship curriculum, which David wrote, entitled "eternal GPS," may be found on the mobile app for the church, “gracelifepineville” under "resources."

David is survived by his wife and 4 children (all of Fort Mill) as well as 5 sisters and their families:Nancy and Roland Wilkinson of Lubbock, TX, Mary and Rodney Olsen of Seattle, WA, Laurie and Jim Fryett of Seattle, WA, Cynthia and Wayne Alexander of Decatur, TX, and Connie and Bill Coats of Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and the aunt and uncle who raised him.

David was thankful for the Gospel of God's grace and how much it is emphasized at GraceLife Church of Pineville. He enjoyed helping people understand the freeness of Eternal Life and that it is received by faith alone--faith plus nothing. His faith was in the person of Jesus Christ. He knew and believed that Jesus is God. His faith was also in the work of Christ. He knew and believed that Jesus' death paid the full penalty for his sins.

He understood that people needed to transfer their trust from themselves--anything that they had done, that they were doing, or anything that they might do--to Christ alone as their only means of gaining Eternal Life. This one-time act of faith was something David did when he was in his 20's. After that time, he attempted to live the remainder of his life in obedient gratitude to Christ for the free gift of Eternal Life.

A "Victory Celebration" is scheduled for 3:00 on Monday, May 11, 2015 at GraceLife Church of Pineville, NC, with Pastors Rodney Cripps and Steve All officiating. Internment will be at Pineville Cemetery in a private service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to their church, GraceLife Church of Pineville, 705 Lakeview Drive, Pineville, NC, 28134, (gracelifepineville.com),or to GraceLife Ministries, P.O. Box 302, Burleson, TX, 76097 (gracelife.org), a ministry which trains pastors all over the world to share the message of the Gospel, and sells a tract David wrote, titled, “Good News of Grace.”

An on-line guest register book may be found at www.heritagecares.com. Heritage Funeral Home - Ballantyne Chapel is caring for the Kesey family.
