David Louis Y’Barbo, 56, of Pathum Thani, Rangsit, Thailand passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. David was born on August 29, 1958 in Port Arthur, Texas to Catherine Montalvo and John William Y’Barbo.
David was a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School class of 1976 and married Kathleen Miller ('80) in 1979. In his younger years, David was active in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In high school, he was on the honor roll, National Honor
Society and played football through his junior year of high school. In 1980, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on to work for companies such as ARCO, OPI and CBS Engineering in varying locales
as Texas, Louisiana, Indonesia, Africa, and China. After falling in love with the country, David moved to Thailand in 2003 where he has worked for CUEL for the past 11 years. In 2005, he married his current wife, Nittaya Buekusol.
David was a devoted Catholic and attended The Church of Our Lady Mother of God in Thailand. He was an active member of the church and their prayer community, Couples For Christ, and became known for serving the congregation snacks and beverages after mass.
David was a dedicated and selfless husband, father, brother, friend and colleague. Those who knew David remember him for his renowned gumbo and margaritas. They will also remember him for his patience, humility and service to the Lord and others. David’s hobbies
include watching Aggie football games, action movies, cooking, working out and making others laugh.
David is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nittaya Y’Barbo; Sons, Josh Y’Barbo, Andrew Y’Barbo and Jacob Y’Barbo; Daughter, Hannah Y’Barbo ('13) and Step-daughter Neay Chaiyasa. Brothers, John W. Y'Barbo Jr. ('78), and wife, Eileen
('78), Paul Y'Barbo ('78), and Stephen Y'Barbo ('82); and sisters, Mary Adams ('84) and husband, Steve ('84), and Jackie Goss ('90) and husband, Steve and 11 nieces and nephews.
In Thailand, a four-day Vigil was held from April 14th to 17th from 6pm to 7pm in the reception hall at The Church of Our Lady Mother of God. The vigil entailed readings, hymns and heartfelt thoughts of David shared by family, friends and colleagues. On Saturday,
April 18th a Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9am in the church and the Rite of Committal was held at Santikham Cemetery following the mass. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Chireno, Texas on August 29th
in remembrance of David. In lieu of flowers, please make all contributions out to Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery .
