Denman L. Cloudt Sr.(1925 - 2015)
Rocksprings – Denman L. Cloudt, Sr., age 89 passed away peacefully Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home in Rocksprings, TX.
Mr. Cloudt was born June 11, 1925 in Rocksprings, Texas the son of Winnie J. and Frank Theodore Cloudt, Jr. He lived for his wife, Olga Faye and the wool and mohair trade. If you spoke about either one, his eyes would light up. Olga Faye preceded him in death.
During his younger years, Denman went to grade school on horseback and in 1947, graduated from Texas A & M with an agriculture degree. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant. One of the things he was most proud of was none
of his flight crew suffered injuries or deaths during his service as a nose-gunner in a B-24.
Some of his best "fun" was hunting bear, moose and sheep in Alaska, British Columbia and Canada, plus some serious salmon fishing. He and his lifelong friend, Roy Lockley also fresh water fished all over Texas.
Mr. Denman started in business by sweeping floors for Bollman Industries in Philadelphia and rose to running a scouring plant in San Marcos, TX. Then he founded Rocksprings Wool and Mohair, Inc. with Dolph Briscoe as a partner, which he subsequently bought
out. He owned and operated this business from 1964 to 1990 when he sold the company and retired. Mr. Denman was a past President of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, the NRA and the TSRA. He could tell stories for hours about breaking horses and
working cattle, sheep and goats while growing up and was an absolute nut about straight and tight fences.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are a son, Denman L. Cloudt, Jr., daughter-in-law, Carolyn Collins Cloudt, brother, Chester R. Cloudt, Sr. 101 years old, grandsons, Denman L. Cloudt III and Harding Collins Cloudt, granddaughter, Anna Camille Cloudt
and great-granddaughter, Sloan Bernadette Cloudt.
Celebration of life services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rocksprings, TX with Reverend Louis Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocksprings Cemetery.
