GREENVILLE, TEXAS. John Jay Adkisson, a lifelong resident of Greenville, died at home on Tuesday, February 24th 2015 at the age of 63. The son of John Wise (“Jay”) Adkisson, Jr. and Nita Lee (“Tubby”) Moore Adkisson, John was born on August 17th 1951. After
a youth filled with sports activities starting in grade school and including baseball, basketball, and tennis he graduated from Greenville High School in the class of 1969. Following in the Adkisson family footsteps, John graduated from Texas A&M University
in 1973 with a BBA in accounting and remained a maroon-blooded Aggie for the rest of his life. After several jobs in various fields, including a period of employment with the city of Greenville, in the early ‘90s he joined the family business, Adkisson’s
Florist in Greenville. Working in partnership with his parents, John shared in achieving Jay and Tubby’s dream of celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the family business and honoring the 1913 founding of the florist by his grandfather Wise Adkisson and
grandmother Lenna Adkisson. As an adult, John transformed his lifelong love of sports to a passion for golf and on nice days, and some bad ones, he could be found at Webb Hill Country Club pursuing his second hole-in-one – the first occurring in 2003. John
was predeceased by his parents Jay and Tubby and is survived by his son William Robert (“Rob”) Adkisson (Gearl) and grandsons Alex and Cody of Scotts Valley, California. Also surviving are brother Richard Wise Adkisson (Jan) of Dallas, Texas and nephew Benjamin
and niece Rebecca and uncle Dr. Mike (Beverly) Adkisson of Greenville. A memorial reception remembering John’s life will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 7th, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please contact Adkisson’s Florist at 903 455 4335 or flowers@adkissonflorist.com
